What it does.

Payroll one month at a time. Each person has a salary profile, a run turns those into payslips, and the run itself stays as the record of what was paid and when it was approved.

PROFILES A salary profile per person, kept apart from the runs that use it
RUN One run per month, drafted, approved and then marked paid
PAYSLIPS A payslip per person per run, gross to net
APPROVAL Nothing is paid from a draft, so an unapproved run cannot be mistaken for one
RECORD The run stays after the month, which is what makes last March answerable
